The seat assembly, elevated 4mm above the rim, creates a consistent air gap. Through this gap, a natural airflow is pulled downward by a vacuum created via a north-facing black vent pipe, which is raised 200mm above the highest point of the toilet block.
As air travels downward through the funnel into the pit, flies that enter the pedestal follow the light up the vent pipe. However, once inside, they become trapped behind a gauze screen and die from exhaustion—including those hatched within the pit. The complete system remains dark at the entry point, disorienting flies and reinforcing its effectiveness as both a sanitation and pest control solution.

The steep, smooth rear funnel design ensures self-cleaning. Any faecal matter that may stick to the surface flakes off naturally, keeping the system clean with minimal maintenance. The toilet lid must always be closed after use to preserve airflow and fly trap functionality.
